Twin Bridges Fernvale
Twin Bridges is a very popular kayaking spot with plenty of kayakers there most weekends.
It's a fun place to paddle with fast water, obstacles and some baby rapids.
Local kayakers class this as a level one paddle.
On the day I went because of all the logs and rocks, it would probably be classed as level 2 (International River Classification System).
here is a video link to river rapids classification.
The river has stretches of fast flowing water and at times is very shallow,
only a few inches. In those conditions kayaks with fixed fins risk getting them snagged or smashed (retractable rudders rule!).
The launch point is from Twin Bridges on the Wivenhoe Pocket Road.
The end point is just before the bridge at Savages Crossing on Banks Creek Road, Fernvale.
There is easy access to the water and dirt carparking areas at both sites.
The flow of the river, makes this a one way paddle so unless you are an olympic paddler you will need to shuttle :).
Having a mate and two cars is handy, drop the kayaks at Twin Bridges then park one of the cars at Savages Crossing.
A paddle from Twin Bridges to Savages Crossing is approximately 4km.
Warning
This area is dangerous in high water conditions.
Both Twin Bridges and Savages Crossing are on the Brisbane River and would be impacted by water releases from Wivenhoe Dam.
