Cooby Dam Walking Track

7-10 km return distance depending upon turn around point

(turn left at boomgate)

Turn onto dirt road directly on the left of the Loveday Cove boomgate.
The Cooby Dam Trail starts at the parking area on the end of that dirt road. It follows the edge of the dam sweeping a little inland until it ends at the dam wall. Return distance is around 8.5 km from the gravel carpark to the dam wall. If you want a longer run/walk (around 10km) turn right at the boomgates and start from the carpark near the boat ramp and turn around at the second picnic area down just past the dam wall.

This walk mostly comprises a wide dirt track. There is a small steep hill at the start to give your legs a workout but don't worry there are plenty of benches scattered along the walk to take a break.

Historically there were small batches of knee high grass along the trail but thanks to the Toowoomba Council's fantastic efforts the trail is now beautifully maintained and mostly wide and clear of vegetation. Ticks are active during periods of high humidity, especially after rain. They love to crawl up grasses and latch onto anything that walks by, including you. Personally I think the best bet is to spray yourself with DEET insect repellant for protection. Tick bite prevention

The trail is well sign posted. The dotted line at the south west on the map below shows the path (compliaments of the Toowoomba Council). Click to expand.
